1935 – Research Institute of America Founded
Founded in 1935 by Carl Hovgard, what was originally the ‘Research
Institute of America’ is still driven by his philosophy: "To study
the practitioner's problems and give a solution in language that's understandable."
1980 - Thomson Acquires WG&L
The Thomson Corporation acquired Warren, Gorham & Lamont in 1980. With resources and support from Thomson, WG&L was able to aggressively pursue new products, earning a reputation as the premier provider of high quality analytical and legal information for business executives and their advisors. For more than three decades, WG&L was a major information source for finance professionals in companies of all sizes and industries. In 1996, the tax publishing activities of Warren Gorham & Lamont were merged with RIA.
1989 - Thomson Acquires RIA
Thomson Professional Publishing, a unit of The Thomson Corporation, acquired RIA in 1989.
1992 - RIA Introduces the company's first core CD-ROM Product
A marvel of links to analysis and primary source material, the company's first core CD-ROM product was introduced and laid the groundwork for future electronic products.
1998 - CLR Acquired
In 1998, RIA acquired Computer Language Research/Fast-Tax (CLR), an industry pioneer and technology leader in tax compliance, tax management, and accounting software. CLR has consistently set the industry standards for automation, directing considerable revenue to research and development. Because of this progressive approach, CLR has been first to deliver nearly every major advance in tax automation, using both internal development and strategic acquisitions to strengthen product lines. The acquisition of CLR has helped to further integrate RIA's tax information content with sophisticated application software products to create leading Web-based solutions.
